The Night Before Christmas at sketch by Tom Kembery

Words Tom Kembery

Renowned for its ever-evolving arts programme and design flair, this year Mayfair’s sketch has again gathered a multitude of design talent to deck the halls for Christmas. Spanning the winter period, from 13th November 2016 - 6th January 2017, sketch presents 'The Night Before Christmas', a series of creative installations throughout the venue.
sketch infuses winter with life through the creation of its very own storybook. Making one’s way through the eclectic establishment, visitors will experience individual installations created by artists, designers and florists; each representing a chapter of sketch’s Christmas tale.

Florist Carly Rogers returns to sketch following her debut at its successful Mayfair Flower Show in the spring. Upon entering 9 Conduit Street, visitors will weave their way through a forestscape, ‘Hollow Way’, to find themselves at the foot of Studio Glithero’s hanging production of dipped candles, entitled ‘The Candle Factory’. Studio Glithero will also take over the Parlour, wrapping the all-day-dining venue ready for Christmas.

Descending into sketch’s enchanted woodland bar, The Glade, guests can enjoy a cocktail or spot of afternoon tea whilst immersed in bespoke florist JamJar’s fairy-tale creation, ‘The Faraway Tree’.

Carly Rogers also takes on the East Bar and infamous pod loos which will be carpeted in a contemporary display of snow-covered shrubs, aptly named ‘Let It Snow’.

sketch’s enclave of installations creates the perfect pit-stop for a Christmas shopping afternoon tea in the Gallery, or lunch in the two Michelin-starred Lecture Room and Library where guests will enjoy festive alternatives to the traditional menus and ‘Follow The Star’, a Christmas tree designed by Tony Marklew.

Music will add to one’s sensory journey with live choirs and carollers performing every afternoon throughout the exhibition period.
