Words: Tom Kembery

Bowland Brewery's Hen Harrier beer has featured in an exclusive lunch to celebrate Lancashire Day.

The brewery, based in Holmes Mill, Clitheroe, and owned by James' Places, has seen its ale accompany a Saltmarsh Lamb and Cocklie Pie dish cooked by Stosie Madi from Newton in Bowland's Parker's Arms at the IceTank venue in Covent Garden.

Hosted by Marketing Lancashire, the Lancashire Day lunch saw the UK's top food and drink writers, critics and industry insiders attend in London. Each course was cooked by a Lancashire chef.

Hen Harrier, named for the rare bird of prey which is found in the Forest of Bowland, is a 4.5 per cent refreshing beer filled with soft citrus and peach flavours.

Said Andrew Warburton, Bowland Brewery co-owner: "We're delighted that our top flight ale, Hen Harrier, has been served at an event to celebrate Lancashire.

"The hen harrier is a living symbol of Bowland Brewery's intimate connection with the landscape where we produce our beers, as well as an inspiration, something we're excited to showcase with all attendees."

The brewery, which recently quadrupled its ale production capacity with its move into Holmes Mill, employs eight people.

Lancashire Day commemorates when the first elected representatives from Lancashire were called to Westminster by King Edward I to attend the ‘Model Parliament', this was on the 27 November 1295.
