Honky Tonk By Tom Kembery
This winter a touch of good old fashioned rock ‘n’ roll will arrived in Hollywood Road in the form of Honky Tonk. A New York-inspired restaurant and bar, Honky Tonk has brought an edgy décor and atmosphere very different to anything usually found in London’s ‘Little Chelsea’.
Honky Tonk is the brainchild of Mark Cutler, one of the founders of Notting Hill institution, supperclub London and has become West London’s destination diner of choice. supperclub London is well loved for its innovative performances and creativity and Mark has developed this in Honky Tonk too. There is regular live music and entertainment, with a particular emphasis on a variation of the blues, jazz and rockabilly played over a hundred years ago when the first honky tonks sprung up in the Southern and Southwestern United States. From the worn brown leather banquette seating and original rock ‘n’ roll music posters, including, of course, The Rolling Stones’ number one single, ‘Honky Tonk Woman’ guests will feel they have stumbled upon a hidden gem. Other quirky design features will include: hand-drawn black and white polka dot wallpaper, a rusty 1950s concertina lift door, white reclaimed swimming pool tiles, mismatched Ercol tables and chairs and reclaimed Japanese ship lights.
Guests can enjoy a New York-inspired menu offering an eclectic range of cuisine spanning classic all-American dishes with elements of Italian and also deli-inspired food with many small plates served alongside larger ones. Diner favourites such as Beef or Pork Ribs, Mac ‘n’ Cheese with Porcini Béchamel and Brisket Roll will be served alongside smaller dishes such as Meatballs, Welsh Rarebit with Black Truffle and Crab Cakes.
Honky Tonk is a collaboration between Mark and creative bar and restaurant consultants, The Cocktail Service. Overseen by their talented team, Honky Tonk offers the perfect range of aged-in-the-barrel cocktails. The bar stocks a diverse selection of bourbons, as well as innovative drinks that cannot fail to astonish and delight, including beer and tobacco-infused cocktails.
Signature drinks include The Honky Tonk, a Mint Julep cocktail made with bourbon and served in a traditional pewter cup to obtain the maximum frosting, an Elderflower Shandy made with elderflower liquor, lemon juice and white floral beer with a ginger sugar rim and The Pickleback, made with bourbon chased by a shot of homemade pickle juice. This new arrival cannot fail to delight and as the 1916 hit song “Down In Honky Tonk Town” puts it, will be truly “where all the fun is found.”
