Lavishly get lost in the Lost Society By Tom Kembery
Words: Tom Kembey
The Lost Society is one of London’s longest established bars and having already been truly impressed by its sister venue, The Lost Angel in Battersea, we decided that we would check out Clapham’s addition. Once again, we were not disappointed.
Steeped in speakeasy glamour, the 16th Century converted barn is now home to an exclusive bar and restaurant that adds a uniquely quirky dimension to a sophisticated evening. Juxtaposing against many of its original wooden features are extravagant chandeliers, luxurious leather sofas and intricately ornate mirrors, complete with an eclectic array of paintings, clocks, gramophones and bird cages.
On the ground floor is the main bar area, which boasts comfy booths and sultry low-level lighting. The upper level is divided into another bar area, complete with a stage for live performances and an intimate restaurant area, where diners can enjoy their meal in a more serene environment before heading on into the lively bar areas.
The restaurant menu is small but perfectly polished with an extensive cocktail menu. For starters, we delved into flavoursome mini goat’s cheese and broccoli tarts and pan-fried octopus before our main courses of swordfish and old-fashioned confit duck. The food was tantalisingly delicious with a perfect balance of flavours. For dessert, we opted for the hearty apple, pear and strawberry crumble and the chocolate brownie (an all-time Studio Club favourite) which both went down a treat and appeased our sweet tooth!
We then made our way to the stage area, as every Friday and Saturday, The Lost Society hosts live acts and DJ’s. Our evening’s entertainment was a sexy risqué burlesque cabaret act, Bouncy’s Boudoir. The performance was fabulous, offering the perfect combination of glamour, humour and sex - the perfect after-dinner indulgence. However, the night did not end there, as a DJ hit the decks and the seating area manifested into a dance floor, for those wanting to party on into the night.
So if you’re looking for a glamorously sexy evening filled with delicious food, exciting cocktails and great entertainment all in a single enchanting setting, then head to The Lost Society; it is worth its weight in gold.
